Description
She has juggled farm and family with several governance and leadership roles, including being a former Chair and Director for Maniototo West Side Irrigation Company and a former director of the Maniototo Irrigation Company. In 2020 she co-founded and worked to establish a $6 million multi-stakeholder catchment restoration project called ‘Tiaki Maniototo’, for our catchment group Upper Taieri Wai. Currently, she is the Arable Chair for Otago Federated Farmers. She is also a Kellogg Rural Leadership scholar, an Agri-Women’s Development Trust Escalator graduate, and a strong advocate for New Zealand’s rural communities.
Emma considers irrigation, and access to fresh water for food and fibre production as a key to the resilience of our farming businesses, the primary sector, and our rural communities. When seeking positive outcomes around freshwater quality, quantity and biodiversity, she says these resilient farming systems and water storage as essential. Fundamental to achieving success in these areas are strategic thinking, advocacy, partnerships, and constructive conversations around the use of water to enable workable policys.
