Irrigation New Zealand

Irrigation consumes approximately 2.5% of New Zealand’s energy generation. This figure will continue to grow as NZ’s irrigated area expands, and existing irrigation upgrades to modern pressurised systems. To minimise future energy consumption, IrrigationNZ and the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA) are working in partnership to improve irrigation energy use efficiency. Evaluation of irrigation system design and management has proven there are significant gains in energy efficiency to be made, particularly through better irrigation management. Improved irrigation energy use and water use efficiency are key to a sustainable irrigation future.
