Description

A Federated Farmers policy adviser Lionel Hume brings to the board specialist skills and knowledge in the fields of plant and soil science and Resource Management Act issues and policy. A South Auckland “dairy farming lad” in his childhood, Lionel always had an interest in agriculture.

After completing a BAgSc at Massey University he went on to work 15 years with the Department of Scientific Industrial Research (DSIR) before going on to complete a Master of Science and PhD in soil fertility. These qualifications lead him to specialise in the fields of plant nutrition and soil fertility with a stint working in the Pacific Islands before seven years at Consumer Advocacy in Christchurch. Two years ago Hume took up the role as an Ashburton based policy adviser with Federated Farmers NZ.
