Ron Cocks Memorial Award for Outstanding Leadership in Irrigation

Every two years, at the Irrigation NZ conference, the Ron Cocks Memorial Award is awarded for outstanding leadership in irrigation, it recognises a person who has made a significant contribution to Irrigation in NZ.

J.R. (Ron) Cocks was a Mid Canterbury farmer, a pioneer, visionary and a leader in farming affairs. His greatest legacy to New Zealand was his leadership in water issues. The memorial award acknowledges that legacy, encouraging others to follow his leadership.

The inaugral 2008 recipient of the Ron Cocks Memorial Award was Sid Hurst

The 2010 recipient of the Ron Cocks Memorial Award was Allan Hubbard

THe 2012 recipient of the Ron Cocks Memorial Award was Brian Cameron

Prior to each conference INZ calls for nominations from members for persons they consider worthy of this award.  The criteria are: 

  1. Duration of service
  2. Quality of service
  3. Actual achievement
  4. Level of voluntary input
  5. Leadership

The award is presented at the conference dinner.
