Ian McKenzie
Ian is an arable farmer from Eiffelton, S.E. of Ashburton, where they have been irrigating since the 1960’s.
He is chairman of the Eiffelton Irrigation Scheme and has recently become the Federated Farmers national spokesman for water and the environment. In that role he has been appointed to the Land and Water Forum and Primary Sector Water Partnership. As an existing member of the board of INZ and with his new role at Federated Farmers, he believes that he has an opportunity to better coordinate and articulate the farmers’ and irrigators’ perspective using the expertise of both INZ and Federated Farmers.
In terms of water issues, the next few years will be critical for the development of agriculture in general, and irrigation in particular. If re-elected to the board of INZ, Ian will be in a unique position to play a part in ensuring a united primary sector position to fight our corner
